Chelsea Handed Major Injury Boost Ahead Of Tomorrow’s Champions League Clash

Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount says he did not suffer a serious injury in the 1-1 draw against Southampton at the weekend.

The 22-year-old could be seen applying an icepack to his knee following the game at St Mary’s, despite playing the full 90 minutes. However, Mount played down fears that he could be sidelined for long after revealing that it was only a minor issue:

“It’s just a little knock. Some bruising, but nothing can stop me.”

The Blues face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 tie tomorrow night, and manager Thomas Tuchel has a number of injury doubts heading into the match.

As well as Mount, Kai Havertz and Tammy Abraham both have knocks, while Christian Pulisic was rested for the Saints clash after suffering a niggle in training.

Thiago Silva is the other main injury concern. The Brazilian is battling to overcome a thigh muscle problem which he sustained in the 1-0 win over Spurs at the start of the month.
