Chelsea Handed Boost In Race For Brazilian Playmaker As Asking Price Is Slashed

Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho could be available for £77m in the summer, according to the Daily Express. The Brazilian international is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga side are unlikely to take up their option to sign him on a permanent basis.

This could alert the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool who have all been linked with the 27-year-old over the past year.

The Blues could well be looking for another playmaker in the summer, with manager Frank Lampard likely keen to replace Eden Hazard, who departed for Real Madrid back in July last year.

Lampard has expressed his frustration about the team’s inability to put away chances, and while Coutinho is not necessarily a goalscorer, he can open up defences with his individual skill.

Chelsea have also struggled at home this campaign when they have come up against teams who sit deep, and even though the Brazilian may be an expensive option, having a playmaker who can create opportunities in those tight games could add an extra weapon to their arsenal.
