Chelsea Handed Big Boost With Club Now Close To Sealing New Contract For Key Defender

Chelsea are now likely to agree a new contract with Andreas Christensen, according to reports in the English media.

The Danish international only has seven months remaining on his current deal and he is within weeks of being able to talk with foreign clubs about a free transfer next summer.

Negotiations with Christensen had reportedly hit the buffers after it was reported that the 25-year-old wanted a significant pay hike, but it seems those issues have now been resolved.

The 25-year-old had been benched by manager Thomas Tuchel for Chelsea’s last two games, with Trevoh Chalobah being given his place in the starting eleven.

However, it is believed that Tuchel regards Christensen as an important member of the first-team squad and he will be very happy when the Dane signs a new contract.

With Thiago Silva also expected to put pen to paper on a one-year extension, it will leave Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta as the only key stars whose futures remain up in the air.
