Chelsea Handed Big Boost As Journalist Claims Midfielder Has Suffered Only A ‘Minor’ Injury

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic may have only suffered a minor injury in the 2-0 win over Liverpool, according to the Times journalist Tom Roddy.

The Croatian international was substituted just before half-time on Tuesday night, but scans on his Achilles have reportedly shown that the 25-year-old should not be out for too long:

If the reporter’s sources are accurate, it would be a big boost for manager Frank Lampard, who also lost Willian to injury in the second half as the Blues progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Brazilian also coincidentally suffered an Achilles injury but it is not yet known how long the 31-year-old will be out for.

Chelsea are going through an injury crisis at the moment with no less than eight players currently on the sidelines. Tammy Abraham (ankle), Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring), Christian Pulisic (groin), N’Golo Kante (adductor), Andreas Christensen (knock) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) are all out of contention.
