Chelsea Give Up On Rooney, Now After Porto’s Martinez

According to Metro, Chelsea have reportedly decided to drop any further interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, and are planning to turn their attention to lodge a hefty £25 million bid for FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The Rooney transfer saga keeps taking twists and turns without any concrete position either way and the situation should be resolved within the end of this month, when the transfer season ends. The 27-year old lodged a transfer request with the club at the end of last season, as confirmed by Sir Alex Ferguson, but has not been able to reach an agreement with the club over a potential departure. With the arrival of Robin van Persie last season, the high-flying Dutchman has become the most important player of the team, and the side have become far less dependent on Rooney’s abilities. In his long stint at Old Trafford, Rooney has always been the star striker of the club, and has not had a striker surpass his scoring or performance charts.

Reports have also suggested Arsenal will revive their original interest in the player, and in the wake of their opening day defeat to Aston Villa, will push for a deal to be signed as soon as possible. There is no doubt in the fact that the Gunners have a large transfer kitty available and waiting to be spent, and Chelsea may be happy to leave Rooney go club which has not signed any senior players in the window yes if he actaully would go which I seriously doubt..

Chelsea’s new strike target, Martinez, began his career at native Columbian club Independiente Medellin as a youth player. He was offered a professional contract by the club in 2004 which was readily accepted, and Martinez went on to play 136 matches till the year 2009, scoring a total of 55 goals for the club. The 26-year old then went on to play for Mexican club Chiapas in 2010, scoring another 28 goals in 58 appearances. This was enough to convince Porto to step in and sign him. In his first year at Porto, he scored 26 goals in 30 appearances.
