In their last outing, when they defeated newly-promoted Luton Town by a score of 3-0 in the Premier League, Chelsea looked very impressive as they swept aside their competition.
There were a number of solid performers in the game, including Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson and Thiago Silva – but it was one of Chelsea’s lesser-known talents that caught our eye on Friday evening.
The efforts of Malo Gusto may not have been picked up on by everyone – but we certainly noticed, as he turned in a fine performance at right-back in the absence of newly-appointed captain Reece James.
It was a tough game for the 20-year-old to feature in, against such a physical outfit – but he rose to the occasion and not only kept a clean sheet, but also notched up a pair of assists along the way.
Why do we recommend Malo Gusto so highly?
So what makes Gusto so special? In a footballing sense, he’s a perfectly adequate right-back with no outstanding weaknesses – but it is his FPL price that turned our head.
When the Fantasy Football Premier League season began, Gusto was valued at just £4.0 – anyone who snapped him up before the campaign’s dawn picked up a real bargain.
He’s still very cheap now, with his price increasing to just £4.1. Following his performance against Luton, coupled with the fact that James could still be set for another few weeks on the treatment table, we’d recommend that you put Gusto in your FPL squad as soon as possible.
He has shown his ability to get forward and create chances for his teammates – so even if he fails to collect the clean sheet bonus, there is a strong chance he could bolster his FPL score with assists on any gameweek that he plays in.
Which other Chelsea players are worth adding to your FPL team?
Currently, Sterling is shaping up to be Chelsea’s top player this season – so far, he has looked far more focused and motivated than he did in the 2022/23 campaign.
While he has yet to showcase the full extent of his talents, Enzo Fernandez is very affordable at £5.0. If your budget is tight, he could prove to be a good pick.
