Chelsea fans react: Marcos Alonso back to Real Madrid?

Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on a possible return to Real Madrid for defender Marcos Alonso. 

Alonso has emerged a shock target for Madrid in the days following their 4-2 Super Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid, with manager Julen Lopetegui reportedly keen to add the Spaniard to his squad before the end of the month.

Los Blancos second-choice left-back Theo Hernandez left for Real Sociedad yesterday, and Lopetegui wants Alonso to replace the the Frenchman and add competition for Marcelo.

Alonso began his career with Real Madrid as a youngster, and played under Lopetegui for Madrid’s B team in 2008/09, however made just one senior appearance for the club before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2010.

The Spaniard then moved onto Serie A side Fioretina, and later on to Chelsea where he has since made 83 appearances for Chelsea over the last two seasons, scoring an impressive 14 times, helping the Blues lift the Premier League title in 2016/17 and the FA Cup a year later.

The 27-year-old was also named in last season’s PFA Team of the Year.
