Chelsea fans delighted as Batshuayi finds the net for Belgium

Chelsea fans are delighted for Michy Batshuayi after the Blues striker scored his first ever World Cup goal yesterday afternoon.

‘Batsman’ came off the bench to find the net in Belgium’s 5-2 win over Tunisia, scoring in the 90th minute to cap off a terrific performance from Roberto Martinez’s side.

The 24-year-old entered the fray with only 20 minutes to play, but found himself straight in the action when he was played through on goal, rounding the keeper only to have his slot blocked on the line by the Tunisia defenders.

And Batshuayi missed another guilt edged chance only moments later, when he slammed Yannick Carrasco’s parried slot against the bar from close range. He was denied a place on the scoresheet for a third time when Farouk Ben Mustapha produced a brilliant save from Batshuayi’s volley.

Persistence paid off however in the 90th minute when Batshauyi got the goal he craved, sliding home calmly Thomas Meunier’s pinpoint cross.

The strike was Batshuayi’s eighth in 17 appearances for his national team, and his first ever at a World Cup.

The former Marseille star spent the latter half of last season on-loan with Borussia Dortmund, where his nine goals saw him named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Whether or not he will be en route back to Chelsea following the tournament in Russia remains to be seen, however Blues fans were happy regardless to see a Stamford Bridge fan favourite find the net on the big stage …
