Chelsea fans applaud Frenchman after impressive debut

Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to praise January signing Olivier Giroud after his impressive debut for his new club.

The Frenchman made his first start for the Blues against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night after joining in an £18 million move from rivals Arsenal last month.

Antonio Conte’s pulled off a much needed 3-0 win on the night, and Giroud more than played his part in what was an impressive display all round.

The France international was a nuisance in the opening stages, and could have opened the scoring early on however instead found Baggies keeper Ben Foster.

After 25 minutes Giroud proved pivotal in his side’s opening goal, holding the ball up excellently in the box before laying it off neatly to the wonderful Eden Hazard to slam the ball home for 1-0.

The Frenchman also took one for the team when he was on the end of nasty boot to the head from Ahmed Hegazi late in the first half – and spent the rest of his game sporting a Terry Butcher style headband before being substituted just past the hour mark.

Victor Moses then added a second – his third of the campaign – to make it 2-0 to the hosts, before Man of the Match Hazard produced a superb solo effort to complete the scoring.

While Giroud was unable to break his Chelsea duck just yet, the fans were more than impressed with what they saw …
