According to Metro, a certain Chelsea fan made a pledge on twitter prior to kick-off to get a face tattoo of Eto’o if he was to score a hat-trick against the Red Devils. Eto’o, who was drafted into the first eleven at the expense of Fernando Torres, gave Chelsea the lead against the run of play when his deflected shot found the back of the net in the 17th minute.
United’s early momentum was lost and they failed to clear a corner with the former Inter Milan striker helping himself to his second goal of the evening with a routine side-footed finish from Gary Cahill’s cross just before the break.
And the 32-year-old duly completed his hat-trick with a poacher’s finish as he pounced on the loose ball and netted his third after De Gea made a save from Cahill’s header after a corner.
The report also suggests that the Chelsea fan will live up to his promise and get the tattoo done. He tweeted, “I’ll have to look for tattoo shops tomorrow. I hate tattoos as well.”
Javier Hernandez scored a consolation for the visitors but their afternoon took a turn for the worse as captain Nemanja Vidic was shown a straight red card for a reckless lunge on Eden Hazard in injury time.
