Chelsea could be set to face a huge blow to their title defence as they await the results of an injury sustained to star striker Alvaro Morata.

The forward has pulled out of Spain‘s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Albania and Israel, after a reported hamstring problem.

Morata joined Chelsea during the summer transfer window from Real Madrid in a club-record deal believed to be worth around £60m. He has been prolific in front of goal for the Blues since his arrival, scoring an impressive 8 goals in 10 appearances.

The 24-year-old was taking shape as an extremely important player in the Blues’ squad, but limped off during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday – much to the horror of fans.

Morata had tests on his hamstring on Monday, and it is reported that he has suffered a grade two hamstring strain. It was then officially announced that the Spaniard had withdrawn from Spain’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers.

It remains unclear just how long Chelsea could be without Morata, as hamstring injuries are often very problematic. Various news outlets have reported the injury could keep him out for up to two weeks, but as we have seen with Paul Pogba recently, that could very easily increase.
