Chelsea Expected To Revive Move For Croatian International In January After Having 78M Bid Rejected

Chelsea will re-enter talks with RB Leipzig about signing Josko Gvardiol in January, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Croatian international has just signed a contract extension to stay in Germany, but Romano says that the Blues are expected to make another move for the player in six months’ time despite having a bid of €90m (£78m) rejected:

A lot can happen between now and the next transfer window, so we shall see if Gvardiol is still a priority target by then. The club have already signed two new centre-backs in Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana while manager Thomas Tuchel also has plenty of young players who are very capable in that position.

Gvardiol is undoubtedly a massive talent, with Manchester City also said to be huge fans of the player, but it looks as though the 20-year-old could well break the transfer record for a defender if he does leave RB Leipzig. Considering his lack of experience, you do question whether the Blues would be wise to make such an offer if they restart negotiations in the New Year.
