Chelsea End Summer Transfer Window With A Bang As Drinkwater And Zappacosta Are Signed

Chelsea fans should be proud of this summer’s transfer campaign as Chelsea managed to make good use of their budget. They sold players with a total value of around £100 and invested twice that amount in what seem to be some very specific and well thought out additions.

Conte seems to be really putting his mark on the way the team looks. It’s been a while since we saw a manager with such a clear and assertive vision regarding what happens next.

He first changed the system. That change brought Chelsea the title. He then started building a squad that does not use improvisation in terms of field positions. He knew exactly what the team needs and where they need it. Morata – clinical; Bakayoko – perfect pairing with Kante; Rudiger – versatile with very well-balanced abilities.

It still wasn’t enough though. The last day of the transfer window confirmed Chelsea are determined to keep their title and also challenge teams like Real Madrid, Juventus, PSG and Bayern for the Champions League trophy.

Conte somehow managed to sign two very important players who will surely make a difference.

First there’s Danny Drinkwater who next to Kante, brought Leicester the title. The 27-year-old was signed last night for £34.2million from Leicester City in a last hour deal which is more than decent for a footballer of his quality.

Drinkwater has the pace and knows what it takes to win the title. He has all the qualities to cover for Matic’s departure and even bring more to the table. His relationship with Kante will be key this season just as it was two years back.

The second important transfer who according to the Daily Express, cost Chelsea £27.6million is that of Italian right back Davide Zappacosta. He is the kind of player only someone who knows Serie A football could truly value given he only played for Torino until now.

Zappacosta fits the same profile as Alonso though which can only mean good things as the Italian can provide competition to both Mose, Alonso and Azpilicueta. Conte has earned the fans’ trust as his investments have paid off. This 25-year-old right-footed Italian will definitely be among the ones to watch this season which we all hope will see the Blues retain the title and compete seriously for the Champions League.
