Chelsea Drop To 16th Place After Disappointing Performance

Having more than one key player out of form proved decisive in the game against Everton who ended with a well-deserved 3-1 win from the Toffees. The defense was once again Chelsea’s weak point, with Ivanovic, Terry, Zouma and Azpilicueta failing to maintain last year’s form. Ivanovic was quite disappointing and gave Naismith far too much space, thus allowing him to score a hat-trick.

Aside from the Serbian defender, Hazard, Terry, Costa and Mikel were mediocre at best. The most disappointing performance was put in by the Spain striker who has lost his from perhaps because of last season’s injuries.

There were some stand-out players for the Blues even though the team failed as a group. Matic was among the most dangerous players on the pitch and managed to score an amazing goal that a year back would have triggered a comeback. Unfortunately, Chelsea are nowhere near as efficient and as focused as last season. The other stand-out player is Begovic who limited the score to only 3-1. He managed to successfully replace Courtois and even if he could have saved the second goal, he did a great job at keeping the team in the game.

Player ratings: Begovic (7) , Ivanovic (4), Zouma (5), Terry (4), Azpilicueta (5), Matic (7), Mikel (4), Fabregas (6), Hazard (6), Pedro (5), Costa (4) – Substitutes – Falcao (5), Willian (6), Kenedy (5)

Chelsea now drop to 16th place and are 11 points away from City who got a late goal to make it 5 wins out of five. Hopefully Mourinho will manage to do something before the clash against Arsenal who seem to be in great form after a 2-0 win against Stoke. The two London sides will face each other on Saturday when the Blues could redeem themselves with a home win.
