Chelsea Delay Terry Contract Talks

The Blues’ management decided a few seasons ago to invest in young talented players and create a team able to dominate European football for years to come. This initiative has continued under Mourinho who looks like the perfect person for the job. Before moving back to London, “The Special One” insisted he is ready to take on a new long term challenge and that he is no longer interested in short term success like he was during his first mandate at Stamford Bridge.

Besides the fact that Chelsea are signing the best young players in the world thy also intend to make some important moves within the club. According to Metro, players over 30 don’t get to sign contracts that exceed one year in length. Even if established, senior names are on the list, Mourinho has decided it is time for generations to evolve. After Lampard who got a one year extension on his contract it is Terry’s turn to negotiate staying another year with the Blues. With his agreement ending during the summer of 2014, negotiations are expected somewhere around Christmas.

Apparently those negotiations are being postponed making Terry’s future with Chelsea very uncertain. The English international may even leave the club earlier than expected with Galatasaray rumored to make a move and bring in JT during the winter transfer period.

The Turkish side is managed by ex-City boss, Roberto Mancini who is well acquainted with Terry’s character and abilities. It would be an big change in scenery for the English defender who has never played outside of the Premier League. He started with Chelsea back in 1998 and has managed nearly 400 appearances for the Blues. Because of that he recently declared he hopes, when the time comes, he will end his career at Stamford Bridge. Hopefully for England’s former captain, Mourinho will extend Terry’s agreement. There is a reasonable chance for him to stay another year or two considering there are no real options for replacing him right now and also considering the fact that Mou has always favored the more experienced players over the younger ones.
