Chelsea Defender Set For Summer Exit

The Brazilian captain, David Luiz has been a bit-part player under Mourinho this season and has been used as a defensive midfielder to shield the back four, even though the former Real Madrid manager had made it clear he would be used only as a central defender.

The terrific form of centre-backs John Terry and Gary Cahill has made Luiz surplus to requirements plus he has a good market value, with Mourinho needing to be generating cash to fund a summer bid for Costa. The 26-year-old was ineffective against Crystal Palace last weekend and was withdrawn at half-time to fuel rumours that he could be sold and he also had a bad performance vs PSG giving away the ball for the 1st PSG goal and also scoring the 2nd PSG goal with an own goal in another forgettable night for the Samba star.

Mourinho knows he must comply with the Financial Fair Play regulations and he will need to sell some players before he can make high-profile and more importantly expensive acquisitions. According to the Mirror, Luiz looks set to be sold by Chelsea so that he can make ‘surgical’ movements in the transfer window.

Luiz was a first-team starter and an important player after his arrival from Benfica in January 2011, but he has fallen down the pecking order this season. The Brazil international will likely command a big fee, with Barcelona amongst others regularly linked with the central defender so a looks deal look likely in the summer but maybe not with Barca as they have just been given a 14 month transfer ban which they may appeal but will likely be upheld, other clubs like Bayern have already also shown a serious interest in the unpredictable yet undeniably talented Luiz so he it seems he will be on the move.
