Chelsea Dealt Major Transfer Blow

Chelsea Dealt Major Transfer Blow

Champions League holders, Chelsea, are desperate to land a prolific striker in the summer since record £50 million signing Fernando Torres continues to be a flop. Although the Spanish international has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season, he is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League in 2013.

Even January-recruit Demba Ba has failed to replicate his Newcastle form, scoring just two league goals since arriving at Stamford Bridge. Although on-loan West Brom striker, Romelu Lukaku, will most likely return to Chelsea next season, owner Abramovich believes he needs to dig in his pockets to land a top striker that can fire them to Premier League glory.

Irrespective of who the manager will be at Chelsea next season, Abramovich is eyeing a few top strikers who can take the London outfit to the next level. Top of his wish-list is Brazil striker Neymar, who has continuously been linked with a move away from Santos in the summer.

The Blues have also been linked with the likes of Falcao and Gomez, but Neymar is their preferred choice. They were hoping to increase the Brazil contingent at the Bridge, which currently consists of Ramires, David Luiz and Oscar.

Oscar has, in fact, been convincing the highly-rated forward to join Chelsea instead of Spanish powerhouses Barcelona, who are also linked with the Brazilian.

But it seems that both clubs have been dealt a massive blow in pursuit of the most sought-after player with Goal.com reporting that Neymar won’t leave Santos this season. According to Neymar’s father, his son will not be leaving for Europe until 2014 at the very least.

He said, “You keep insisting on something that does not exist, we have no offers. Neymar will stay [at Santos] until 2014. He is under contract with Santos until 2014. So at the very least he will stay until then. Every transfer window is the same thing since Neymar was 13 years old, and I keep saying that he won’t leave Santos. It’s almost ten years saying the same thing.”

Chelsea will now have to look elsewhere, but could line up a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who scored 4 goals at Real Madrid in Dortmund’s semi-final win in the Champions League. Former Blues manager, Jose Mourinho, looks set to re-join the club in the summer, and he is keen on bringing the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge alongside him next season.
