Real Madrid are poised to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a pre-contract agreement, according to reports in the Spanish media.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have also reportedly registered their interest in the Austrian international, but it appears that Real have won the race to sign the player on a free transfer.
It was always thought that Alaba preferred a move to Spain but the 28-year-old’s wages were believed to be an issue in any potential switch. However, it seems the La Liga champions have now managed to put a financial package together which is acceptable to the centre-back.
The contract offer tabled to the Austrian is said to be worth around €10m a season (approximately £171,000 a week) for four years. Such a figure would not have deterred Chelsea, who could probably have offered more, but it does seem as though the two-time Champions League winner has always had his sights firmly set on a move to the Bernabeu.
