Chelsea dealt late injury blow ahead of Cardiff City clash

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be out be around two weeks after picking up an injury whilst on international duty with England.

The midfielder made his first start of the season when he stepped out for England on Tuesday, however limped off the field following a late challenge from Switzerland midfielder Denis Zakaria.

A scan the day after the 1-0 victory has now ruled out the 22-year-old for up to two weeks, meaning he will miss this weekend’s clash with Cardiff City, as well as next week’s games against PAOK and Liverpool.

Loftus-Cheek has made just two substitute appearances for the Blues this season, and had hoped to use his time with England to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s starting line-up in the coming weeks.

But he will now have to wait at least a fortnight before he can try and kickstart his season following the knock.

The injury to the midfielder means Danny Drinkwater could be granted some much needed playing time at the weekend, with the former Leicester City star having yet to feature in the Premier League so far this season.
