Chelsea Dealt Blow As Report Claims Key Target Has ‘Told Real Madrid That He Wants To Join Them’

Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has already “told Real Madrid that he wants to join them” according to the Times journalist Gary Jacob.

The German international is reportedly the next target on Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s wishlist but it appears the Blues are facing an uphill battle to sign the 20-year-old.

Havertz is valued at around €100m (£90m) by Leverkusen but with Real reportedly struggling to get on top of their finances during the global health crisis, it could provide an opening for the London club.

The midfielder is said to be keen on leaving the BayArena this summer, and if Real cannot come up with the funds to sign him, he may well consider alternative destinations.

However, the Times also report that Chelsea may also have to sell players in order to finance a move for Havertz. They even go as far as to say that the Blues would consider selling N’Golo Kante in order to continue their transfer spending.
