Chelsea Consider Shock Move For 32 Year Old Serie A Centre Back

Chelsea are “following” Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi, according to FCInterNews.it. The Italian website claims that both the Blues and Inter Milan are weighing up approaches for the 32-year-old.

The centre-back has been at his current team since 2018 when he moved from Sassuolo, and although he has a contract until 2023, he reportedly earns just €1.5m a season.

With that being the case, Acerbi’s agent Federico Pastorello has been in discussions with Inter. The Nerazzurri have a good relationship with the 46-year-old Italian after he helped facilitate Romelu Lukaku’s move from Manchester United.

It means that they would have a big advantage over Chelsea if the Lazio defender were to leave the Stadio Olimpico at the end of the season.

Acerbi has been a regular in the first team this campaign, helping his side to second in the table with the best defensive record in the whole division.

Chelsea’s interest in the Italian would be a surprise considering his age, but if he is available relatively cheaply, manager Frank Lampard may see him as an economical way to add experience to his backline.
