Chelsea confirm Conte sacking

Chelsea have officially confirmed the sacking of manager Antonio Conte.

Reports yesterday appeared to reveal the Italian had been let go from his role at the club, with a number of players sending farewell messages to the 48-year-old via social media.

And Chelsea have now confirmed his departure with an official statement on the club’s website.

‘Chelsea Football Club and Antonio Conte have parted company,’ the statement reads.

‘During Antonio’s time at the club, we won our sixth league title and eighth FA Cup. In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories.

‘We wish Antonio every success in his future career.’

Former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is widely expected to be named as Conte’s successor.
