Chelsea Close To Second Signing?

According to the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho is nearing his second signing of the January transfer window, as Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma has revealed a phone conversation with the Portuguese manager regarding a move to Stamford Bridge.

Zouma’s career began in his native France, where he was part of the youth development setup. The Vaulx-en-Velin youth academy was where he started his development in 2005, and the 19-year old continued impressing scouts of St. Etienne. The club finally signed him and offered him a professional contract. Since then, Zouma has played 51 times for the club, and has scored 4 goals. The sheer ruthless nature of his game is well suited for the Barclays Premier League, and would be an asset to Mourinho’s defence.

The youngster also has international experience, and national manager Didier Deschamps has already touted the player as one to watch out for the captain’s armband in the future. Reports earlier in the week suggested that Chelsea were facing competition from rival teams like Liverpool, but Zouma has finally cleared the air over his intentions to leave France for a new adventure.

Chelsea have been in the news over the signing of Nemanja Matic from Benfica, and with Mourinho’s quick decision making, it would not be a surprise to see Zouma in a Chelsea shirt in the near future. With just 12 days to go, Chelsea seem to be making the big moves in the transfer market as far as the top four are concerned.
