Chelsea Close On Striker Signing

Chelsea Close On Striker Signing

Chelsea are reportedly close to signing striker Fernando Llorente from Swansea City, as the transfer deadline day approaches.

Antonio Conte has been known to want Llorente this summer, who scored 15 Premier League goals last season during his first season in the Premier League – and reports in Spain say that a deal could be wrapped up by the end of tomorrow’s deadline.

The Chelsea boss has admitted his desire to secure at least three new signings before the deadline closes on Thursday night, and Llorente is a top target up front. The Spaniard would be Chelsea’s fifth signing of the summer, and would join compatriot Alvaro Morata up front.

The 32-year-old played a huge part in helping Swansea to safety last term, and the Welsh side are believed to want a high fee for the striker – with reports of around £30m quoted.

However, Spanish outlet AS say Chelsea are closing in on a deal for half of that price, and Swansea are already looking to sign Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony back to the club.

The Daily Mail say Llorente’s move to Stamford Bridge could be a done deal by the end of today, after talks were held between the two clubs last night.

UPDATE: As we now know according to Fernando Llorente’s brother and agent’s recent Facebook post showing Fernando in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt, the former Swansea City striker has now joined Tottenham Hotspur after Swansea confirmed the deal to sign Wilfried Bony back from Man City and then the signing of Llorente at Spurs was confirmed. So Chelsea have missed out on a striker the manager seemed to seriously covet and it will be interesting to see if the Blues do indeed move for another forward in the last hours of the window.
