Chelsea have ended talks with Everton over Fikayo Tomori’s potential loan move to Goodison Park, according to reports in England. Discussions were at an advanced stage but David Luiz‘s switch to Arsenal has led to the Blues cancelling the deal.
Frank Lampard will need four senior centre-backs heading into the new season. With Luiz likely to move to the Emirates, it would have left the Chelsea manager with just Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma if Tomori was also to depart.
The England Under 21 international was Derby’s player of the year last campaign and has worked very closely with Lampard, who is said to rate the defender very highly.
However, there is no denying the fact that Tomori lacks the experience that Luiz offers the squad. The 21-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance for the Blues, which came over three years ago in a 1-1 draw against Leicester City.
