Chelsea Bid For Portuguese Winger Despite Potential Legal Complications

Chelsea have indeedtabled an £8 million bid for Sporting Lisbon’s highly rated winger Bruma, who is said to be keen on a move away from his native country, as suggested by the player’s agent.

Mourinho is not only looking to build a superb starting eleven for the next season, but also lay foundations for gradual success in the future. Such is the case of Bruma, who is a Portuguese wide-man hailing from Lisbon. His admirer and compatriot Mourinho will know all about Bruma’s strengths and weaknesses, and will use his popular man management skills to ensure the 18-year old keeps progressing in training despite the presence of some of the world’s best players plying their trade in the Barclays Premier League week-in-week-out.

Bruma has been a loyal servant of Sporting, and began playing for the club in 2007 as a youth academy player. Bruma has representing Portugal’s Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 squads in his years at the Sporting youth academy and he recently received rave reviews for his performances at the recent Under-20 World Cup.

According to the latest report by ESPN, Bruma is making all the efforts to make a swift move away from his original club, by hiring a lawyer to have his contract at the club terminated, making way for him to become a free agent. Sporting believe that an automatic renewal clause in Bruma’s contract has been activated so he is under contract to them in their eyes whereas Bruma believes his contract expired at the end of June and he is free to look for a new club. His representatives had confirmed bids from Chelsea and Galatasaray, but refused to reveal the winger’s preference.

His lawyer, Bebiano Gomes, said, “Now Bruma heads totally out of Sporting. If the case goes through the courts, no problem.”

The player himself confirmed: “I deeply regret the outcome of this matter. I did everything to stay at Sporting and I made it clear to my representatives to try to reach an agreement. But after all this time, Sporting did little for me to renew,

“I want to avoid any sort of controversy with Sporting and especially with the fans. I am a professional and I will continue my career.”

So this looks like it could be a messy one but in these cases the player usually gets what he wants particularly if there is a club willing to spend the money involved to meet Sporting’s evaluation and seemingly there are two clubs. It remains to be seen but Chelsea must be favourites to land the young star if Jose really wants him.
