Chelsea Are Weighing Up Surprise Swoop For 16M Polish International

Chelsea are considering whether to make an offer for Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash, according to reports in the English media.

The Blues are scouring the market as they look to sign a backup for Reece James before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

The lack of depth on the right flank is a major concern for Graham Potter, with James’ injury problems making it hard for the manager to rely on him. As a result, a number of alternatives for the England international have been looked at.

Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has been heavily linked but the Dutchman could cost as much as €60m (£53m), while there has also been some interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro.

However, Cash would probably be cheaper than those two targets. The Polish international joined Villa from Nottingham Forest for £16m in 2020 and he has put in some impressive performances for the Midlands club.
