Chelsea and Liverpool battle for 35m defender

Chelsea are reportedly locked in battle with Liverpool over the signing of Porto defender Alex Telles this summer.

The Brazilian left-back, who started his career in Brazil before moving to Turkey with Galatasaray, Italy on loan with Inter and Portugal where he currently plays with Porto.

But the 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Portugal this summer, as PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool are all reportedly circling to try and complete a deal.

It’s claimed that Telles has a £35million release clause in his contract, something that Jurgen Klopp is keen to activate in order to strengthen their back line. But with Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson already in the Reds’ ranks, perhaps a deal might be too much to ask for Liverpool who have other areas they need to strengthen this summer as more of a priority.

Chelsea however are known to be in the market for a full-back, with Florenzi also rumoured to be a target of the Blues’. It remains unclear what the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge will be next season, but that won’t stop them completing signings over the summer in order to fight for the title next season.

Telles made 45 appearances for Porto last season, scoring 4 goals in the process.
