Chelsea Alerted By Buyout Clause As They Join City In Battle To Sign Villa Talisman

Chelsea are interested in signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish and could take advantage of a buyout clause in the 25-year-old’s contract, according to reports in England.

Manchester City have been heavily linked with the playmaker in recent months, and while there have been rumours that the Blues were keen on the player, it seems they are now serious about entering the race for his signature.

Grealish signed a new five-year deal to stay at Villa Park last year, following speculation that Manchester United were interested in signing him, and numerous reports since have suggested that the midfielder could cost in excess of £100m.

However, the potential existence of a release clause could well explain why Villa opted to sign Emi Buendia from Norwich City, and have also been trying to snap up Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal, as they could be anticipating Grealish’s departure.

Whether Chelsea actually need Grealish, considering they already have the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz, it is open for debate, so we shall see how this transfer story develops.
