Chelsea have included Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett on their list of targets for the next transfer window, according to 90min.com.

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell is believed to be manager Frank Lampard’s first choice to strengthen the left-hand side of the defence, but his price tag may force the Blues into looking at other options.

Porto’s Alex Telles, Atalanta’s Robin Gosens and FC Basel’s Blas Riveros are also being considered but the inclusion of Targett is a surprise.

The Villa defender only made the £11m move from Southampton last summer, and he has yet to fully convince during his brief time at Villa Park.

It is unlikely that Targett is at the top of the list of priorities but he is an attack-minded fullback, with a strong delivery into the box. It appears Lampard is focusing on players who are in a similar mould to Marcos Alonso, but could provide a more consistent level of performance than the Spaniard.
