Chelsea 4 – 0 Brentford: Match Report

Even though Antonio Conte decided to start the game with players like Nathaniel Chalobah, Ake, Loftus-Cheek and Batshuayi, there was no doubt right from the beginning that the Blues would have an excellent afternoon. As predicted they went ahead and scored quickly through a beautifully executed free kick from the right corner of the box. Willian curled the ball past the wall and gave Bentley no chance whatsoever.

It was a matter of minutes until Chelsea doubled their lead through Pedro who got lucky to receive a ball from Batshuayi who was aiming for Loftus-Cheek. Regardless, the Spaniard showed he has excellent composure in front of goal and put the Blues 2 goals ahead with only 20 minutes gone in the game. Within the next 20 minutes Chelsea could have gone up 6-0 if not for some decent saves by Bentley and 2 offside calls from the referee.

The second half started with Begovic needing to finally make a save. Nothing too serious though as the attack immediately shifted towards Brentford. Loftus-Cheek hit the post while Pedro, Willian and Fabregas were denied goals by Bentley.

Ivanovic replaced Willian in style and scored what could be his last ever goal for Chelsea. After seeing him play though, most would say he should definitely stay at Stamford Bridge. He still has pace, he can shoot and he is very strong. He even got a penalty for Chelsea who were put 4 goals ahead by Batshuayi who sent the keeper the wrong way to close the match with 10 minutes to go.

What we’ve learned from this game?

Each and every one of the players rumored to leave impressed against Brentford. It is hard to tell if it was because they wanted to prove themselves or because Conte is that good of a people person and knew exactly how to get the best out of them.

Loftus-Cheek is an amazing player. He was unfortunate not to score this Saturday as he was one of the most dangerous players on the pitch.

Fabregas is the perfect orchestrator and dominated his adversaries with his passing skills.

Begovic is too good to be a substitute and it is a pity he may be about to leave Stamford Bridge.

Terry is surely in his last season at Chelsea at least as a player. It would be wonderful to have him retire after one last Premier League title.

Chelsea now have a few days to get ready for Liverpool and then Arsenal. If they do manage to get good results out of these two games, the title is as good as theirs you would have to say.
