REPORT: Chelsea Defenders ‘Wants To’ Make Deadline Day Transfer Move To European Giants

Chelsea academy graduate ‘wants to join Bayern [Munich]’ on transfer deadline day according to a tweet from journalist Fabrizio Romano.

He could make a ‘last minute’ jump to the German giants today – if not, he will remain at Chelsea, as it appears that Bayern are the only other club that he is currently interested in playing for.

On his official Twitter page, Romano wrote: “Trevoh Chalobah wants to join Bayern. Looks like last minute Bayern move or staying at Chelsea for English CB.”

Should Chelsea let Chalobah go?

Chelsea, currently, have no shortage of quality options at centre-back. They can currently call upon Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Malang Sarr and Bashir Humphreys to feature in that particular role.

They also have Wesley Fofana, who is also a top-quality centre-half, but he is currently out of action with a long-term injury. Additionally, Reece James can also play there, but only as part of a back three.

As such, should Chalobah stay at Chelsea after the transfer deadline passes at 11pm, he risks being lost in the mix as part of a bloated squad. Due to this, joining Bayern Munich makes a lot of sense on his end, but it remains to be seen if the German giants will complete a deal for him or not.

Chalobah is much more than just a centre-back, however – he is also capable of playing in the defensive midfield role. If Chelsea decide to let him go, they will lose his adaptability.

Could any other Blues players leave the club on transfer deadline day?

In terms of outgoings, Chelsea could be set for a busy end to 2023’s summer transfer deadline day. Not only is Chalobah rumoured to be leaving the club, but so is fellow academy graduate Conor Gallagher.

Additionally, Callum Hudson-Odoi, after seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge for several months now, is also expected to depart the club on deadline day.

It is thought he will join fellow Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest – it was recently reported that he was undergoing a medical with the Midlands club [via BBC Sport].
