REPORT: Chelsea Player Rejected Transfer Move To Premier League Club On Deadline Day

Chelsea academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah reportedly turned down a transfer move to Nottingham Forest after his move to Bayern Munich collapsed on deadline day, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Forest were thought to have submitted a bid in the region of £25 million – while Chalobah reportedly ‘appreciated the effort’, he nonetheless rejected a move to the Midlands.

While Chalobah turned down a move to Forest, he was not the only Chelsea player who the Tricky Trees pursued – they also put forth an offer for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who joined them for an undisclosed fee [via BBC Sport].

Chalobah is currently under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2028 – on top of this, the Blues also have the option to extend his deal for another year if they wish to do so.

Due to this, the Blues had no urgent need to sell the 24-year-old – the collapse of his potential transfer could be a good thing in the ong run for the Stamford Bridge faithful.

What did Fabrizio Romano write on Twitter regarding Trevoh Chalobah?

On his official Twitter account, Romano wrote: “Nottingham Forest tried to sign Trevoh Chalobah with an important proposal to the player on Deadline Day.

“The agreement with Chelsea was done, permanent transfer for more than £25 million. Chalobah appreciated effort but rejected & decided to stay after Bayern deal collapsed.”

Will Chalobah have a role to play for Chelsea this season?

Just because a move for Chalobah to Forest did not materialise, this does not necessarily mean he will be a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI this season.

Additionally, following the transfer window, Chelsea now have a surplus of senior centre-backs, including Axel Disasi, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile.

This isn’t all bad news for Chalobah, however. He is proficient in more than one position, having played effectively as a defensive midfielder and as a right-back in the past.

If he has a role to play for the Blues this season, it will probably be as a defensive utility player. He is unlikely to amass a large number of starts, but his versatility will make him a useful player to have in the squad.
