Cech On Madrid Radar

Petr Cech has been recognised as the ideal candidate to take over the goalkeeping reigns at Real Madrid, and his current club Chelsea could be subject to a £10 million bid from the Spanish giants, according to the Express.

The Spanish league last season was a wake up call for the likes of Madrid and Barcelona, who were beaten to the title by a Diego Simeone led Atletico Madrid. Since then, Barcelona have invested in Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu, while Madrid have added World Cup stars James Rodriguez, Keylor Navas and Toni Kroos to bolster their squad. One position which has been troublesome for Madrid is that of the goalkeeper, ever since Iker Casillas’ dip in form in the recent past. Even though Diego Lopez has filled in Casillas’ shoes well over the past two seasons, the club would want an experienced goalkeeper to secure the position.

Cech has been part of Chelsea since 2004, and has won 13 major trophies in a Blues shirt. With 470 appearances in all competitions for the club, Cech is not only experienced, but can also handle the pressures of playing for a big club. Playing at Santiago Bernabeu with high expectations may not be possible for every player, but Cech is sure to do justice to the opportunity. The only hurdle could be age, as the 32-year old may not be a really long term solution.
