Cech Confident He Will Remain Chelsea’s Number One Goalkeeper

There has been a lot of talk regarding Courtois’s situation. The young goalkeeper who is in his third year on loan with Atletico is set to return and claim Cech’s spot. Even though nothing is certain, it is very unlikely that the Belgian international will sign a contract extension knowing he has no chance of playing on a regular basis. His contract is set to expire in 2016 which means negotiations are in place.

According to TEAMtalk, Cech insisted he is certain no one will take his place anytime soon. The 31 year old who made his first appearance for Chelsea back in 2004 has always been the Blues’ first choice. Despite that his last performance against PSG got people thinking.

Cech looked confident he still has a lot to prove and reminded the press that he was always faced with tough competition (althougb I think he is pulling our legs if he is referring to previous Chelsea back-ups Hilario and Ross Turnbull who while no slouches were not exactly the hottest keeping properties). What he failed to mention is that none of Chelsea’s former keepers were as young and as efficient as Courtois who has done wonders for Atletico. The Czech international also pointed out the fact that he does not fear the youngster despite his incredible form.

The problem is that Courtois might push for a permanent move if Chelsea doesn’t offer guaranteed a spot in Mourinho’s starting eleven. It is close to impossible to see the Belgian be a substitute for any keeper.
