Carragher On Why Sarri Must Make Key Tactical Change To Help Struggling Chelsea Star

Tv pundit Jamie Carragher believes Maurizio Sarri must adapt his tactics in order to help out Jorginho.

The Italian holding midfielder has struggled to adapt when opponents have man marked him, and Carragher feels Sarri must make a tactical change to ensure he isn’t swamped in the middle of the park:

“Faced with the challenge of tweaking his 4-3-3 system, Sarri’s response has disappointed. He won’t replace Jorginho because without him the system is compromised, but I feel sorry for the midfielder because any player who is man-marked will find it difficult – as we have seen with Eden Hazard. When you are man-marked it is a sign of respect. Jorginho needs help.”

Sarri remains wedded to the tactics that served him so well in Italy but opposition managers in the Premier League haven’t taken long to expose his system’s weaknesses.

It seems the Blues boss wants more time on the training pitch to execute plan A rather than reverting to a plan B which many critics have proposed.

However, with games coming thick and fast between now and the end of the season, he’s unlikely to get his wish. The Italian may have to muddle through until the summer when he has a full pre-season.

Results must improve before then, though, if Chelsea are going to make the top four.
