Cahill Sums Up Entire Chelsea Season In Three Words

Chelsea started looking better after Hiddink’s arrival. Sure, the Dutchman might have saved the Blues from the shame of fighting to avoid relegation, but in all seriousness that probably would have never happened – not even if Chelsea had not changed managers. Mental melt down or no mental melt down, players like Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Cahill or Courtois are built for the Premier League and for the Champions League.

One of Chelsea’s best players this season, Gary Cahill, spoke about what happened at Stamford Bridge and managed to sum it all up in three words: “lack of desire”. This came after Chelsea were administered one of the harshest defeats in the club’s modern history – a 3 – 0 loss against Manchester City.

Here is what else Cahill had to say: “We should have more pride in ourselves to go out and give a performance and at least run around and try to get close to people,” he said. “We need to maybe speak next week as a group because we have some great players and some good lads. “We have nothing to play for but I don’t care how you play, you run around and if you make mistakes you make mistakes and you go again. I thought we lacked that in this game.” According to SkySports, Cahill’s statements were in an obviously disappointing tone: “I thought we got what we deserved. At times in that game we were rubbish and lacked the desire to get a result and they had it, and they punished us for it. “We seemed to have a few corners for us and the next minute they were down our end having a dangerous attack at goal. “Maybe it was a lack of concentration from us. We started the game okay, we had a few chances and put a bit of pressure on and got some corners but overall, we can play a hell of a lot better than that.”

It’s hard to tell what will happen next season with Conte taking over. One thing is certain: Chelsea need leaders so John Terry obviously will be turned to (assuming he stays) but another seemingly certain choice out of all the players who are now in Chelsea’s lot, Gary Cahill looks like the one with most influence and with the right attitude.
