Bundesliga Chief Lifts Lid On Negotiations To Sign Chelsea Ace For 70M

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that the Bundesliga side were in talks with Chelsea about signing Callum Hudson-Odoi before the transfer window shut earlier this month.

Reports suggested that the German club were looking to sign the 19-year-old on loan, with an option to buy for £70m at the end of the season, but Salihamidzic said that negotiations did not go very far as they realised early on that the Blues weren’t interested in selling the winger:

“There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: ‘We have to leave this immediately’. It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start. We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.”

Hudson-Odoi’s lack of game time at the start of the season may have prompted Bayern to make their move for a player who they have had a long term interest in, but the England international has begun to feature more prominently in recent weeks.

He started the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace in the club’s last game before the international break, but the return to fitness of players like Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech will mean he will have a battle on his hands to keep his place for upcoming fixtures.
