Brazilian Star Defender Snubs Chelsea Move

Atletico Madrid defender Miranda has snubbed a chance to move to Chelsea, and has reportedly decided to stay put with the Spanish champions, according to Metro.

Diego Simeone built a united squad last season that went on to win the La Liga from the hands of Barcelona at the Camp Nou, and the manager has added several players to strengthen his squad. Miranda has been a crucial part of the team’s defence, and had been a target for Chelsea this summer. With the departure of David Luiz and Ashley Cole, Jose Mourinho is keen on adding to his defensive options, and despite adding Filipe Luis from Atletico, the Portuguese boss may not be satisfied with the depth in the squad.

Miranda began his career in his native Brazil where Coritiba signed him as a youth player. He was then signed as a professional, but played just one full season at the club, before moving to French outfit Sochaux. After a season at the club, Miranda was on the move again but this time on a five year spell to Sao Paulo. In 2011, Atletico spotted his talent and signed him on a three-year contract. The 28-year old has made 94 league appearances for Atletico so far, scoring 5 goals in the process. Simeone will have a task on his hands to defend the league title, but Miranda’s presence should at least stabilise the back-line.
