Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic underwent a scan to determine the seriousness of a hamstring injury he picked up at the weekend.
The American international was withdrawn from the starting eleven against Burnley after pulling up during the warmup but, at the time, manager Frank Lampard played down the severity of the problem, describing it as a minor issue.
However, the need for a scan would suggest that Pulisic’s injury may keep him out for longer than anticipated. Supporters on Twitter are becoming increasingly concerned about the 22-year-old’s injury record:
Boy is seriously fragile. Is this why he only ever played 30min at a time at bvb

Worries me … tendency to believe he may be made of glass …. plays 3 misses 15 and so on and on 🙏🙏

I do worry about his injury history. At his age he shouldn’t be getting consistent injury issues. He’s becoming a Loftus-Cheek 2.0 in that regard – hugely talented, but cannot maintain a level of consistent fitness.

He needs to build muscles

He is getting injured very often. That’s not good. His future in Chelsea is being risked.

I hope he doesn’t have a Gareth Bale like career (injuries). We desperately need our ace on the field playing. What a talent. ⚽💙 pic.twitter.com/5sEaKJccab

Gradually giving up on this man because his injuries record with both Chelsea and former clubs is crazy 😢😢😢

Young players, particularly wingers, can go through periods where they have successive hamstring problems. It is absolutely vital that Pulisic’s latest injury is handled correctly so there will be no further recurrences.
The scan could be a precaution so the club’s fitness coaches can better handle his recovery but we shall have to wait and see if the news is better or worse than first feared.
