Boehly’s Connections To Super Agent May Lead To Chelsea Making Bid For Portuguese Star With £52M Buyout Fee

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly’s association with super agent Jorge Mendes could result in the club making a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to Record.

The Portuguese tabloid claim that, as Mendes is managing the Uruguayan’s affairs, he is likely to be offered to the Blues, who may be tempted into tabling a proposal.

Ugarte has also been linked with both Liverpool and Aston Villa but any team can speak to the player as long as they trigger his €60m (£52m) release clause.

It should be pointed out that Chelsea are in the market for a holding midfielder but it remains to be seen whether Ugarte is deemed as the number one target.

Who are Chelsea’s other midfield targets for the summer transfer window?

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is known to be a target for co-Director of Recruitment and Talent Joe Shields, who originally signed him for the Saints last summer.

There has been longstanding interest in West Ham’s Declan Rice, while Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka has been mentioned as another potential option over the past week.
