Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi has revealed how he feels ‘delighted’ to have finally made his first-team debut and is looking forward to making his mark at Stamford Bridge.
The England U17 international came on for the last ten minutes of Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Newcastle at the weekend, adding to what has already been a brilliant season for the young striker.
Hudson-Odoi was rewarded with a nod for Antonio Conte’s side after his terrific form for the club’s development squad – for whom he has scored six times on their way to the Checkatrade Trophy semi-final – and the 17-year-old says he is thrilled to have given his opportunity in the first-team.
“I have grown up here from starting when I was eight years old and I have progressed really well,’ he said. ‘I am really happy to have made my debut,” said Hudson-Odoi, “The manager showed faith in me when he brought me on and I am really happy with that, and hopefully I made a good impact when I came on.
“I was not at all nervous. I have been training with the players a lot and I feel I have been gaining confidence with them and I hope it showed on the pitch, that I was confident to get on the ball and just do my stuff.”
Hudson-Odoi was joined by fellow youngster Ethan Ampadu at the weekend, who made his sixth senior appearance of the season.
In playing the duo, Chelsea became the first English top-flight side to field more than one player born in the 21st century in a single domestic match.
“Hopefully it was the first of many games and hopefully I just keep progressing well and developing.”
