Blues ready to make approach for Stoke City star

Chelsea are ready to step up their interest in Stoker City keeper Jack Butland, according to reports.

Butland was relegated with the Potters last season, and is now thought to be looking for a move away from the bet365 to keep alive his dream of becoming England’s number one keeper.

The 25-year-old will travel to this summer’s World Cup as part of Gareth Southgate’s squad as one of three keepers alongside Nick Pope and Jordan Pickford.

Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer amidst interest from Real Madrid, and the Blues will look to Butland as a replacement for the Belgian shotstopper.

Chelsea are also looking at Roma keeper Alisson, however the Serie A giant’s huge asking price of £79 million is thought to have put off Antonio Conte.

Butland is expected to cost less than half of that price, at around £30 million.

The England star has remained coy on his future however. When asked about next season, Butland said: “I’m contracted to Stoke. I’m really looking forward to this summer and the World Cup is the main part of that.

“What will be will be, I don’t have anything in the pipeline and there’s no focus on that at the minute.”
