Big Phil Talks About The Chelsea Job

Luis Felipe Scolari or “Big Phil” as he is affectionately known, commented on his experience at Stamford Bridge during a press conference held before the friendly match between Brazil and Russia, which took place at the Blues’ stadium. He was obviously not satisfied with the way things ended between him and Abramovich. He said that he did not have enough time to build on his ideas and that no one could have done better in those circumstanceas.

Scolari’s 7 month long spell with Chelsea left the Stamford Bridge team fourth in the Premier League and still contesting both the FA Cup and the Champions League when he departed.

Brazil’s coach expressed his disappointment with the lack of support and recognition he got after what he says was a good job even if some fail to see it that way. He also said that he has nothing to say about Chelsea’s management team and his comments refer only to his performance.

On the positive side of things, Chelsea’s former coach said that his experience at Stamford Bridge was great even if short. He managed to win 20 of his 36 confrontations in which his team managed to score 66 times and concede only 24 goals so there were always plenty of goals scored by Scolari’s team.

Reporters asked Scolari if he thought he could have won any of the competitions in which he was then involved in. He was unable to answer saying that it is impossible to know how things might have gone.

David Luiz, who has been called to captain his national team under “Big Phil”, said that Scolari is still very much appreciated within the club. He underlined the fact that his current national team coach is a true professional and he has a great resume that says a lot about the quality Scolari always brings to the table.

Luiz also said that Scolari was probably a bit more motivated to show to Chelsea fans he should have been kept around for a bit longer.

The match ended with honours even in a 1-1 tie but Brazil’s coach was happy with the draw last night as the last time a team he managed got a draw at Stamford Bridge it was when Chelsea tied Hull City back in 2009 and he was fired by Abramovich right afterwards. Scolari is still looking for his first win since returning to the Brazilian hot seat and he would have lost the game last night had it not been for an injury time equalizer from Fred. It looks like Big Phil still has plenty of work to do to get Brazil ready for the World Cup next year.
