Best Australian Players In Premier League History

Mark Schwarzer is an Australian legend.

The Ashes are well underway, as England take on Australia – to remain in the spirit of things, let’s take a look at some of te best Australian players in Premier League history.

We’ll be looking at Socceroos stars who turned out for teams such as Newcastle United, Liverpool and Chelsea in this list.

While Australia have often struggled on the international stage, they have consistently produced top-quality players over the past few years.

In this list, we’ll be looking at the very best of them – including deadly hitmen and hard-working midfield players. Do you agree with our picks?

Mark Schwarzer

Long-standing goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer makes the bottom of our list – in truth, his sheer longevity played a huge role in his inclusion.

Despite this, when called upon, Schwarzer rarely let teams down. While he was never the most spectacular of shot-stoppers, he read the game incredibly well.

He played from 1990 until 2016, during which he played for Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Fulham and Leicester City.

Mark Viduka

Next up is Mark Viduka – a dynamic forward who could also function as a number ten, he is fondly remembered by Socceroos and Premier League fans alike.

He had a penchant for scoring spectacular goals – he was a constant threat from outside the area and never allowed goalkeepers to switch off.

During his time in the Premier League, Viduka played for Leeds United and Middlesbrough, before ending his career at Newcastle United – he also enjoyed a stint at Celtic prior to this.

Harry Kewell

Harry Kewell may not have been the most popular player on this list – but his natural talents could not be denied by even his fiercest critics.

An adaptable attacking player, Kewell could play on either wing – he could also function as an attacking midfielder and as a second striker.

While in the Premier League, Kewell played for Leeds United from 1996 to 2003, before he moved to Liverpool – he collected a Champions League medal during his time at Anfield.

Tim Cahill

There was only ever one pick for the number one position – Tim Cahill was as popular during his time at Everton as he was naturally gifted.

A brilliant, technically-blessed striker, he would often slot into midfield if necessary. However, he was at his best when battling centre-halves up top.

He spent a total of eight years during his time at the Toffees – during this magical stint, he scored 56 goals in 226 games.
