Bertrand To Face Tough Competition?

Bertrand To Face Tough Competition?

With Ashley Cole’s contract almost over, Chelsea are looking to find some competition for Bertrand who was expected to replace his 32 year old teammate. The 24 year old has been with the Blues since 2006 but was sent on loan until 2011. Since returning to Stamford Bridge, he has always been the manager’s second choice. This season he has featured in just three matches which is unexpected considering Cole will probably leave and Bertrand should take his place.

According to Metro, Chelsea’s 24 year old left-back may have to fight for a spot in Mourinho’s first eleven with Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez. The 21 year old defender is apparently one of the Blues’ scouts’ main targets. The reports have really impressed Chelsea’s boss who is looking to make a move probably this January. The Swiss international is valued at 8.8 million pounds and is under contract with the German side until 2016. He could turn out to be a great deal for the Blues who really need options if Cole does not reach an agreement with the club.

The Blues could also try including De Bruyne in the deal for Rodriguez who is well acquainted with the Bundesliga and would surely be an enormous acquisition for Wolfsburg who are looking to perform in next year’s Europa League competition.
