Bayern To Bid For Chelsea’s Luiz?

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Bayern Munich may attempt a bid for Chelsea defender David Luiz, with reports suggesting new manager Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen the back line, after a poor performance in the German Super Cup final last Saturday.

There is no doubt about Bayern’s financial muscle, and last year’s league win certainly made them the favorites for another title winning season. With the arrival of Guardiola, the squad has renewed confidence, and the Spaniard takes charge at the Allianz Arena in his first season, after taking a year off from football management. Guardiola had a very impressive term at Barcelona, a club he represented as a player in the past, and won the treble in his time at the Nou Camp. His brand of football was praised worldwide, and his squad gained the term of the world’s most powerful footballing side, with the perfect blend of youth, experience and exquisite passing.

Another club with a new manager are Chelsea, who welcome Jose Mourinho back into Stamford Bridge for a second time. Mourinho’s first stint at the club was not only marked with expensive signings under the funding of Roman Abramovich, but also the consecutive Barclays Premier League trophies won. The likes of Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry, who were part of his first successful spell, worked closely with the Portuguese manager, and eventually established their place in the England national side as integral members.

However, Mourinho’s second stint will see him taking over a squad which is already star-studded, and ready to challenge for the title. Also, there has been a recent surge of Brazilians to have played for the club. Alex, who now plies his trade at Paris Saint Germain, was followed by Ramires and David Luiz.

The Brazilian central defender has been a strong influence on the Chelsea back line, but faces competition from two players who could both be playing for England next summer at the FIFA World Cup should Terry come out of international retirement. Luiz may find the attraction of playing for Guardiola or Barca too attractive and might try to force a move away from the Bridge.
