He is happy with the rest of his squad, but thinks that his defense is something which he can strengthen further.

He has earmarked Chelsea’s David Luiz as his number one choice as the Brazilian international impressed for Chelsea last season, and also continued his impressive showing into the Confederations Cup, where his solid performance at the back helped Brazil beat Spain in the final by a handsome 3-0 margin. He was one of the stars of the match and was instrumental in keeping the enviable Spanish attack at bay throughout the game.

DailyMail reports that his outings have impressed Guardiola, who is keen to add him to the likes of Mario Gotze as players who have agreed to be a part of the Guardiola revolution at Bayern Munich, though there is severe competition in the form of Barcelona. Barca are in desperate need of tightening their defense and are thought to be highly keen on Luiz. They are also looking at Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva as a second choice if their approaches for Luiz fail.

There is also a possibility of Luiz quitting Stamford Bridge after new manager Jose Mourinho took over and has not assured him a starting role for next season, something which was guaranteed to him along with a appearances in midfield by former manager Rafael Benitez. Going back to center-back on a permanent basis might upset Luiz, who played several games as a defensive midfielder for Chelsea in the final quarter of last season. This could possibly play a factor in his decision to quit London.
