Bayer Leverkusen Chief Speaks Out On Whether There Has Been Progress In Chelsea’s Move For Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has confirmed that there is still no agreement for Kai Havertz to leave the Bundesliga side.

It was expected that Leverkusen’s exit from the Europa League would have accelerated negotiations with Chelsea for the German international’s transfer but Voller claims there has yet to be any significant movement:

“No decision has been made yet. I’d like to repeat myself by emphasising that we’re talking about a wonderful footballer. There is nothing new in this regard. We have a clear and mutual agreement with him and his representatives that he can only leave if certain requirements are met. Otherwise, he will stay.”

Although Havertz is very keen on making the switch to Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are very confident of getting their man this summer, this could well be a long, drawn-out saga.

Like with Borussia Dortmund and their asking price for Jadon Sancho, it appears Leverkusen are wedded to their valuation of Havertz.

Whether Chelsea will agree to pay the €100m (£90m) required, we shall have to wait and see, but they may want to see if Leverkusen blink first. Unlike Dortmund, they are not in the Champions League next season and will need to sell players in order to balance the books.
