Batshauyi reveals why strange reason he chose Borussia Dortmund last month

Chelsea striker Michy Batshauyi has revealed the hilarious reason he chose to join Borussia Dortmund on-loan last month.

The Belgian moved to the Bundesliga club on deadline day in January as part of a trio of last minute deals that saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang go to Arsenal, and subsequently Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud move to Stamford Bridge.

While of course Chelsea would have had a say in Batshauyi’s destination, the striker has said it was Dortmund’s traditional black and yellow colours that convinced him to join the club – because he likes Spongebob Square Pants and Batman.

After struggling for game time this season so far under Antonio Conte at Chelsea (despite being the club’s joint top scorer), ‘Batsman’ jumped at the chance to join Dortmund, saying: “I love black and yellow.

“Black and yellow is Batman, black and yellow is Spongebob!”

Not only do they appear to the former Marseille star’s favourite colours, but also his lucky ones.

The 23-year-old was on hand with a brace and an assist to mark what was a terrific debut for his new club in a 4-3 victory over FC Koln.

After the match, Batshauyi took to Twitter to celebrate – and perhaps take a sly shot at his former boss too.

Following his debut, he tweeted: “90mns, two goals, an assist & a great victory. Dream debut with @BVB

Dortmund are not believed to have an option to buy Batshauyi at the end of his stint at the Westfalonstadion, meaning Chelsea fans can look forward to seeing the fan favourite back at the Bridge next season.
